March 11th, 2010 by jkurtenb

The Roosevelt Reads! committee has selected a winner!  After a long discussion and several votes, I Was A Rat, by Phillip Pullman, emerged as the title for next year’s One Book, One Community.

Danny, Champion of the World continues to be a popular read.  We will show the film version of Danny on May 7, so mark your calendars.

Kevin, one of our student volunteers, has created a virtual map of the media center.  Check us out.

Note that we have two computer labs available for sign up:  Borges and Palma (both famous Latin American librarians…)  Sign up is available here.

Get caught reading!

December 21st, 2009 by jkurtenb

This summer, we are again challenging students to “get caught reading.”  Take a photo of yourself reading in some exotic, or even mundane, place and we will have the pictures assembled in the library and featured on the display board.

If you are looking for a good summer title, check out the “Recommended Reads” section of the website.  The link will take you to an annotated list of titles.

Did you read Danny?

Danny, Champion of the World is our One Book One Community title for the year.  Many community members have read Danny.  Drop by the library and sign the sheet letting us know that you read Danny, or respond to this message with your comments on the book.  Did you like the book?  Be careful about spoilers!

The newest toy

We just got our first Kindle.  We are pretty excited and of course, still trying to think of how to use it.  It would be great to use the Kindle to get fiction books that we normally wait up to 8 months to receive–maybe this is better for the international crowd than for the domestic US crowd!

Any ideas on how to incorporate the Kindle?

The View from FDR Media Center

The first Roosevelt Reads posting…

It is Tuesday afternoon and the media center is full of parents and students.  The high school is conducting parent teacher conferences and there must be about 200 people in here.  A great day to show off the place!

Periodically, the media center staff will add a note to this posting letting you know about our daily adventures.
