FDR Athletics and Activities: An overview.
The Athletics & Activities Program at Roosevelt is an extension of school life where by it is designed to support the schools’ mission and core values:
“Our mission is to empower our students to pursue their passion for learning, lead lives of integrity and create socially responsible solutions.”
The Elementary and Secondary Schools each offer a mix of activities and sports that are both age appropriate and challenging. These programs be they performing arts or athletics are open to all students so as to help students develop skills and an appreciation of life long learning, making friends having fun, learning to play as a member of a team, learning to play fair and improve self esteem. The Activities program for grades 1-5 and 6-12 is offered in both semesters. We believe that participation in these programs will result in the better health and fitness, stronger physical skills, an enhanced understanding and appreciation of performing arts along with the increased social interactions. Simply stated: commitment, hard work and fun.
The 6-12 Athletics program is build around FDR’s membership of ADCA which is the domestic league of competitive athletic participation. There is also some access to ADCA participation in the Elementary School. The Varsity teams represent FDR in SAAC (South American Activities Conference).
FDR Athletics and Performing Arts in the Secondary School and the Condor spirit
Athletics and Performing Arts remain a cornerstone of student life at FDR as they complement the efforts made inside the classroom. The Athletics program at FDR shall demand that its members work together—the student-athlete & teacher-coaches, for no cause will succeed unless there is a common goal. Our goal in the Athletic and Performing Arts programs is to seek successful student participation. Our job is to prepare students to enter the arena of life. We will stress hard work, leadership, camaraderie, sportsmanship and fair play along with a desire to learn the intricacies of the activity. Together we will work to solve any problems. Away from the venue of participation or our final goal is to ensure that Athletics and Performing Arts at FDR are held in high esteem by all stakeholders and that FDR students will enjoy many of these benefits for the rest of their lives. In order to meet these goals, FDR provides teams at the following Sports: Volleyball, Football (soccer), Track and Field, Basketball , Swimming & Community Softball. SAAC Performing Arts has recently been included.
FDR seeks to provide participation and appropriate competition. Whenever possible tournament and trips are included in the program to provide extra incentive, opportunities and focus. Meeting these goals is no easy task. There are many demands made on both facilities and personnel. Lima schools are very helpful in providing competition via the ADCA league but often our calendars do not always match up. To improve our competition at grades 9-12 or Varsity level we have expanded the ADCA league to also offer competition within the South American Activities Conference as FDR participates and collaborates with the SAAC schools from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Uruguay.
Both ADCA and SAAC leagues schedule tournaments throughout the year. The tournaments are very successful but require a great deal of commitment and work by the hosting school. At FDR we do our very best to run the programs and we are always looking to add value and improve them. There is one area that the FDR community can help and that would be in the area of homestays. Please see inside this Athletics and Activity forms information on where you can be of assistance in this matter.
Please see the additional form page that once completed will allow your daughter or son to participate and be successful in their SAAC / ADCA activity of choice.
